ConrolLogix upgrade from Version 8 to 12

I have a ControlLogix system, 5 processors w/ethernet and ControlNet over Devicenet.
The processors are located in 4 racks and are remote from each other; one of the racks has two processors the other 4 racks have one processor each.
The processors are Logix 5550 1756-L1/A Series A FW Rev 1.2
They talk to each other via ethernet.
Each of the 4 systems has a independent ControlNet network interfaced to Devicenet via CNDN modules.
There are 3 RSView terminals on ethernet used as HMI's.
I want to upgrade to Version 12.
I know I have to upgrade the processor firmware and if I am close to the memory limits, I may have to upgrade the memory (but I doubt it, since we don't use motion commands).
Considering my configuration, does any one have any suggestions as to anything else I may need to upgrade in order to get to Version 12?

That link shows a table of what the lowest recommend firmware version are for all the modules for each processor firmware version.

You might needs a user name and password to get there (just register where it asks you to log on). If you can not get there from that link then:

http://support.rockwellautomation.com/

and then click on Firmware updates


It looks like you will be doing a lot of flashing. Unless you have a huge amount of time on you hands, I would make sure you are doing it through a CLGX Ethernet card. Makes things go ALOT quicker. Just take it from chassis to chassis and do all the firmware updates using it. It will save you many hours versus doing it serially.

Are you using any system redundancy modules? I'm guessing you're not.

But if you are: wait for version 13, or use 11.

Check if you have any explicit messaging on devicenet, as the message format was altered between versions 6 and 10, im not sure when. But this caught me out when upgrading from 6 to 10!! Took nearly 3 hours to sort!!
If you need to do this let me know and i will e-mail you the details.
