For those that don't know, a loop diagram is just about the most useful piece of paper you can have when trouble shooting instrument loops.

Completely agree they are very useful! It's just a form of schematic, Used particularly with those projects with a high concentration of signals hardwired back to control panels without the benefit of remote IO in the field, they were useful for showing the termination from the PLC through all junction boxes to the device and back.

We have a brand new Waste water treatment plant on site and these were supplied with a set of loop drawings and they were a common feature of drawing sets I used to produce as part of a project.
