Is OPC DA Win7 client, Win10 server possible?

I have a Win10 64 bit host for my OPC DA server, which is Indusoft (Studio,Scada.OPC.3). Locally OPC works, Matrikon OPC Explorer. On my Win7 client I can ping the host and the OPC test client finds the topics, but I either get access denied or topic not found when I try to connect. I have tried everything I know of, including info on these links, to open it up and get it working.

I've been browsing the forum for another OPC related topic and found this unanswered question. I know it's been years but just in case someone else is having the same problem. This is an issue related to DCOM configuration. DCOM is required to enable remote communications for OPC Classic components. DCOM configuration guidelines are available for download here.

Newer windows have more and more Dcom settings disabled for security reasons by default. User name must match and even after lot of editing DCom settings it still usually won't communicate to another PC.

DCOM has always been messy, but relatively recently Microsoft added security patches to Win 10 (for good reason) that pretty much broke everything.


Most vendors took the approach of "you know what we mostly switched to OPC UA a while ago, there are few enough customers using the old OPC protocol that also are using up to date windows that we're just gonna focus on the new and let the old fade into oblivion".

There are OPC DA extensions that can provide remote OPC DA connections as alternative to DCOM.
Search for 'OPC tunnel'.

I opened everything wide and can get RS Linx connected, but the Indusoft server still shows "Access denied" (see attached)
