Looking for a used PLC but which one?

This might not be a major dilemma but there are so many rack configurations and SLC's or micro logix's that I'm not sure what or which I really need.
I have some experience with PLC's. I have RXLogix500 and Linx. Dunno if whatever else I have or need. I also plan on perhaps on getting a laptop to interface the software with PLC if needed. MY PC has serial Com1/2 connections. Also If I get a laptop, can it be Windows Vista 64 bit or 32 bit or XP home, or even Mac?

Now I want something that doesn't cost me much.(perhaps 250US at most)
And I believe I'll have assistance in setting it up or programing if I get stuck.

What I need is about 12-24 Inputs, and Outputs each, digital. Analog would be nice but I dont think I'll need it.
Basicaly Im gona use a PLC for a project to run an old washing machine.

You can purchase a new GE Versamax micro, programming software and cable for about $400.00 dollars. Check with your local GE dealer for actual cost.
