Modbus RTU to TCP converter

Could I use a Modbus RTU RS232 to TCP converter for a basic Click PLC, or do I have to buy their Ethernet version?

You could use a specific Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP converter but the device on the link you posted is a simple RS232 to TCP/IP converter, which will not work because both protocols are different and use a different sequence of bytes.

That sucks. I just wanted one to mess around with, but not as much as the cost of a PLC with Ethernet.

It is worth it to buy the Ethernet Click PLC. It is a faster CPU, supports High-Speed Counters (DC input) up to 250Khz and uploads/downloads faster.

As soon as you purchase a Modbus RTU to TCP converter, the cost would be more.

most drivers will support both modbus tcp and modbus rtu over tcp. but you will likely spend more than upgrading to an ethernet model.
