Greetings everyone...We have an old 230V 3 phase 2HP motor we received in on a used tank. We're curious how it is supposed to be wired. I did a web search and didn't turn anything up, it's a very old motor.

The motor is a Mojonnier model R40

There are six motor leads and they are numbered:

1-2-3 and 11-12-13

Our 230 volt supply is a grounded "B" phase.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Greg

It is probably a dual voltage motor - 230/460 VAC.

On some old motors there were second "nameplates" that had wiring data for each voltage rating.

Hmmmm, thanks for the info Tom. Actually the motor nameplate only indicates 230VAC....If your idea is correct, which set would you propose is the 230V set of leads?

Again, thanks for any info you can provide...

Greg

What confuses me is the 11-12-13, the 13 is confusing. I have a page for connections but nothing I am familiar with has a #13 lead, that implies more than 12 leads total.

Sounds to me like you have a two speed dual winding single voltage motor.

1,2,3 is for low speed.

11,12,13 are for high speed.

Ron, 11,12, and 13 are not to imply more than 12 leads, but rather it is to designate the second set of 1,2,3 on the higher speed windings, or if you like: 1-1, 1-2, and 1-3.

Start checking continuity from 1 to 2, 1 to 3, 1 to 11, 1 to 12, 1 to 13.
Then, 2 to 3, 2 to 11, 2 to 12, 2 to 13.
Then, 3 to 11, 3 to 12, 3 to 13.
Then, 11 to 12, 11 to 13.
Then 12 to 13.
Next list the combinations as either open or closed.
This will help determine if the motor is a star, a delta, or a two speed type.
