Hi all,

Here is my situation:

I have a mining machine which has two large cutting heads. The machine is on tracks which are hydraulically driven (4-20mA proportional solenoids). Basically if the operator drives the tracks too hard, the motors driving the cutting heads will exceed their full-load current.

I'm taking a moving average of the head currents and then selecting the maximum of the two. If this maximum average exceeds the full-load current of the motor, I would like to scale back the output to both proportional valves.

I'm pretty sure that I would use a PID to do this but I've never used one before so I'm looking for a little help on getting started.

I'm using Logix5000 / control logix L61 controller.

Thanks in advance!
