Power over Ethernet Telephones?

Greetings,








Is there such a thing as power of ethernet connected phones? I'm thinking CAT6 cables to telephone outlets and connecting telephones with PoE capability to these outlets. CAT6 cable fed from Utility supply.

I assume you are asking about office systems. If so we have them here. Cisco 7945's.

if you are referring to power over ethernet, yes, they do exist.
BUT !!
you have to have the correct switch to power the phone.


we have cisco 7945 phones through out the plant and use cisco WS-C2960-xxxx single stack and stackable switches to power them.
8,24, and 48 port units. we also have an analog gateway for the analog lines where the 7945's will not survive long.


mixing and matching cisco devices tend to not work well.
I am the local phone programmer at the facility for cisco.

Thank you for the response. You mentioned in the post that the 7945's won't survive long in certain locations. Are you referring to locations which would require the use of more robust telephone units(damp, gaseous, etc. environment)?
