Hi,
I am new user of Rxlogix and working on a good project these days. I want to know how to bring in the VFD in rxlogix and how to setup all the parameter related to the VFD

the ISSUE is the speed setpoint is coming from the DCS. so the PLC is reading the speed feedback from the VFD and do the scaling ( which I don't know how to do) and transfer it to the DCS ( which I don't know how) and then DCS transfer it back after some PID control and then again that value has to go with some sort of scaling in the PLC (which I don't know how).

Can somebody please please give me some tips and advice so I can proceed with that.

Thank you

Welcome to the PLCTalk Forum !

In order to begin helping you, I would have to ask a lot of questions about the model of the PLC and the DCS, and the type of networks or signals used to connect them to the PowerFlex 700 and to one another.

I would also ask a lot of background questions about whether you are responsible for the initial design of this aspect of the control system, or if you are troubleshooting or modifying a system that was previously configured by others. I would have to have you explain the basic operating principles of the process you are trying to control using this VFD.

PLC controllers and DCS systems are extremely flexible and there could be many dozens, even hundreds of ways to "integrate" a PLC, DCS, and VFD.

The fact that you have chosen not to provide any usable information of this sort in your original post makes me think that you are attempting a project that far exceeds your current abilities.

All experts start as novices. One of the most important qualities an engineer can have is a knowledge of his own limitations in skill and knowledge.

But you're going to have to demonstrate some aptitude and some initiative if you want help from the PLCTalk forum community.

I recommend that you spend some time reading this:

If you can come back and re-post a quality question, I'm sure the Forum community can help you out.

yup...I am a novice user but I have good experienced helpful colleagues

I am happy to give the answers to your question and you are right I started as a novice user but my colleagues are very good and they are helping me lot with the programming but for the VFD I want to do something on my own, infact I was able to do a lot which I let you know.
PLC - AB Control Logix,
DCS - ABB, 800xA System, brc410 is the main thing I know which communicate between DCS and PLC
VFD - AB Powerflex 700 Series ( I added AB Powerflex 700H in Rxlogix which created I/O and I added few from Datalinks)
all DOL and VFDs are on ethernet IP to connect to the PLC and infact I was able to communicate with the DOL with a E3 interface by loading up the *.eds file. so I did the samething for the VFD and setup all the alarms and I/Os for the VFD.

I am not saying I am any near to your experience but these days I am taking a lot of experieince from the previous projects.

my main question is why scaling is needed and how it is done, I was reading one PDF document which actually shows scaling and conversion of raw counts can be done directly into the VFDs.
