Hello Experts,

I have two system one ET200S and another CPU 1513- PN which are 300 meters apart.

Now i want to share data between these to system over available profibus cable. Both system don't have profibus port.

Kindly requesting to advise on required converter at both end to establish best profibus communication.

Thanks.

MAKSM

Option 1, would be to add Profibus cards to the two devices. You can't use the fastest speeds and reach 300m, but 500kbps should reach 400m. For the 1500 rack, CP 1542-5 (6GK75425FX000XE0) should be sufficient for master/slave communicaiton. If you need S7 comms, you need the CM 1542-5 instead. I'd need more info on the ET200S rack to know what to recommend there.

Option 2 would be to communicate via Ethernet over Profibus. Siemens makes modules that allow for Ethernet over "two wire cable", which allows you to go 1000m.

SCALANCE M826-2 is a modem that converts standard copper Ethernet to 2 wire cable.

See this page for more info:

Probably not relevant to your situation, but if you were using ET200SP, you could use the BA 2xRJ45VD HA, which allows you to run two wire cable into directly into the Bus Adapter.

Thank you Mk42 and Alfredo

Sorry, ET200S has IM 151-3PN module and IO modules Only.

Please advise solution for Profibus communication at ET200S side.

Thanks,

What part number specifically? There are a few options within IM151-3PN, with different feature levels.

Hello MAKSM:

OK, you have IM 151-3PN module on the device (or slave) side, and the CPU 1513-PN on the controller or master side, and as you point out, none of these have Profibus interface. Yet you want to reuse an existing Profibus cable.

You need one the PLC side a Profinet device/Profibus master such as the ones below:
https://industrial.softing.com/prod...-control/profinet-to-profibus-dp-gateway.html
https://www.anybus.com/products/gat...teway---profibus-master---profinet-irt-device
https://www.hilscher.com/products/p...-ip20/entry-level-gateways/nt-50-dp-endpmpns/

In the ET-200 remote IO module you need the opposite functionality, that is Profbus slave/Profinet controller. This seems to be the more difficult and I have found this one:
https://www.hilscher.com/products/p...-ip20/entry-level-gateways/nt-50-dp-endpspnm/

These gateways are not cheap. You may be better of buying two industrial switches and use three 100 meters LAN cables to create a 300 meters link and just use the Profinet controller in the S7 PLC to communicate with the ET-200 remote IO.

EDIT(addition):
If you do not have access to power the Ethernet switches another option that you may want to look into is to use fiber-optic to RJ45 converters, as the fiber-optic link can provide you 300 meters, but of course you do have the cost of laying the fiber.

Because of the 300 m distance it may actually be the easiest solution to use the existing profibus cable.

Please state the exact type nos of the equipment that is present. "ET200S" is not enough. 6ES7......

Maybe the ET200S is an IM151-7. In that case there is already an MPI/DP port onboard. If it is an IM151-8 then it is possible to add a DP master module.

I see that in post 4 you wrote that the ET200S has a PN IM. Change it to a DP IM. And add the CP module mk42 mentioned in post 3.

Edit CP not CM

MAKSM & JesperMP:

I am so sorry, I misunderstood the requirement and thought MAKSM is using S7-1200. Of course the solution explained by JesperMP in post #8 is the best solution, especially if the Profibus cable is already in place.

Really sorry for providing not so good advice.
