Hi all.
I am to start programming a Siemens Logo PLC.
I have a V4.0E Step 7 MicroWIN on my laptop.

Do I have to buy a Logo software or not?

Programming the LOGO

Hello.

The MicroWin are for the S7-200 PLC.
LOGO! Soft Comfort (v6.0) are for the programing of the LOGO.

Also it needs a communicationon-cable.
To save money you can buy the LOGO! NEWS BOX that comes bundeled with a logo, manual, software and a screwdriver(!)

The display variant of the LOGO can also be programmed with the keys on the LOGO, but that is a little more timeconsuming and not so easy to develop and debug the program.

Yes you need to buy LOGO software, the latest being V6.0, it,s not possible to use step 7 microwin.

You can get a demo version to play with. The only limit is that it wont download to the LOGO unit.

I did a few projects with one of the early models maybe 8 or so years ago, was quite powerfull; BUT the layout got uweildly when you tried to do PLC things with it!

Try it first, the test feature is very good. You can check if your project will work before spending a penny.

In fact, you don't need any software at all. You can program the Logo! with the buttons on the front. It won't be easy though..

YES definately need LOGO software and cable

The LOGO is a very powerful little brick that we use in small applications-couple of I/O and to program it via the keypad can get confusing at times

i used it recently (6.0 software) and i was not disappointed - i hated it.
zelio, alpha etc. are much better. btw. zelio software is free.

I agree about the zelio. Very nice to work with, But having the big boss from Belgium i am mostly stuck with the equipment from his neibouring country.
