Are there any problem to use S7 professional 12/2002 version for PLC program development?

Also, $700 that I bought this software with single license is good price?

Hello songyou;

Step 7 professional is a great package to have, even if it is an earlier version. Which version of Step 7 basis do you have, 5.2, 5.3? The only problem you will encounter would be if you need to program the newer CPUs and CPs, they will not be present in the HWConfig editor. But even themn, an upgrade license will be much cheaper if yopu want to go to the newer hardware.
With Step 7 pro, you have access to all 5 of IEC61131-3 laguages (as supported by Siemens, as some here will point out). So you have all the tools to learn and implement all the standard industrial controls used in the world today. And you have a good simulation software that will allow you to test and correct your programs without actually needing the hardware.
At the time it came out, Step 7 pro sold for about 3000$ CDN, aroung 2750$YS at the exchange rate applicable at the time. So yoes, idf all your icences are active, then you did not do too bad on the price.
Hope this helps,
Daniel Chartier

Is very bad price for very old version and only for support very old hardware.
But whit old license you can buy Upgrade package to v5.4 PRO by lower price 650 Euro.

As from STEP 7 version V5.2 you have the option of updating your hardware catalog via the Internet.
Very very limited update for v5.2.

For try you can buy Premium Studio 2007 SE, on DVD with Trial License for many of the included software products. (90 Euro)

Thanks for good comments. You are exactly right that it costs $3,000 US from the dealer in NJ, USA. My company isn't willing to invest $3,000, but keep pressuring me to develop PLC program with standard license. But without Sim mode it's almost impossible to develope PLC program. Eventually I decided to buy it for myself for my future carieer as PLC programmer. In future If I have problems to develop PLC program, could you provide me some tips since I am a novice level and just finished 5 days S7 PLC tranining - TIA1.

Thanks,
