Terminator Field I/O with ControlLogix

I am looking at a project which I would like to use ethernet and would like to combine automation direct's field I/O with the power of ControlLogix. Has anyone worked with the 2, and is communication to the field I/O from a controlLogix PLC simple to configure?

Not even if I use modbus over ethernet? Dang, I just can't justify spending close to $2,000 for 8 RTD inputs, when the field IO offers 14 for $399!

Sure you can! 14 for $399 = No worky!, 8 for $2000 = worky!

Any spare analog inputs on your system? Could just get signal converters and use 4-20mA inputs.

You could look at Spectrum Controls offerings too depending on the platform you have.

Bummer. Any idea what the cost of the spectrum controls are compared to AB?
The problem I have with using converters is that the system will have upwards of 150 RTD or thermocouple sensors, so putting a converter on each will be very very expensive. If using AB I also wanted to use point I/O, to save space since they only offer 8 RTD inputs on the compact versus field I/O having 14. The point I/O only offers 2 inputs per slot!

I am beginning to think Automation Direct needs a product to compete with factoryView. Either that or rockwell needs more of an analog selection and need to get their pricing under control!

Well, if you don't use Ethernet, there is the Devicenet and Modbus Terminator IO that should work. I guess you will have a slower update speed, but depending on your application it would work fine.

The T1H-EBC100 says it supports Modbus TCP, can the AB speak that?

Thanks! Devicenet should work, I have no idea why I didn't think of that. Allen Bradley created the devicenet protacol!
