All three methods posted work from inside an FB. Not sure what's different in the OP's system.

Looks like OP has optimized instead of standard data, might matter.

It can, but in an FB you need to set the tags to retentivity "set in IDB". It can be either retentive or non-retentive in the IDB tho.
