Would like to upgrade a Transfer Car-Thinking of using Wireless Ethernet or Ethernet

Good Afternoon ,

I'm looking to upgrade a Transfer Car that travels about 150' . At the
moment it uses DeviceNet. My goal is to eliminate all Devicenet in the plant .

My question is , I understand that Phoenix Contact , Banner , Etc. have Wireless Ethernet that can be used instead of using communication cables such has Cat 5 thru an energy chain.

What would be your recommendation ? How reliable is Wireless Ethernet to control important automation ?

I would stay with Rockwell
I have both used and recommended wireless radio ethernet

in your case probably point IO would work just fine

A plant that we do work in has a trolly system that uses Bluetooth in order to communicate between the main panel and the one on the trolley. Been told it has been rock solid. Might be something to look into.

Does the transfer car travel along a defined path? If so, I'd recommend a solution based on leaky coax. It makes it a ton easier to try to manage channel overlap and things like that on a wifi system.


I've seen Siemens systems that even had the safety signals going over wireless, with no issues.
