Hello,

I'm hoping someone from France can chime in here. I'm looking for the word in french that would be used in place of the english word gear (as in a mechanical gear like a spur gear).

merci beaucoup!

"engrenage" - typically used in the context of a gear assembly.

"roue dantée" - typically used for a single gear piece - literally "toothed wheel"

Does it count if I'm from Quebec instead of France? ;-)
