We are trying to connect an SLC 5/03 to PanelView 550. The panel gives error 612 "no active nodes". I have read other posts which talked about using an NC13 or NC14 cable. If that is the way to do it, how do we make the cable?

We have also tried using a 1747-aic+ converter along with a 1747-pic to connect. Panel is unable to see the plc. What is the best way to fix this problem? Thanks for any suggestions.

The part number as requested above would be a help :)

One thing could possibly be that you have a node conflict or that the 5/03 isnt configured correctly for dh+ or dh485 for talking to the panelview or the panelview comms are set incorrectly!

If you post the part number of the Panelview then you could also post the channel configration you have on the 5/03 see attached pic

2711-nc13 (5meter) nc14 (10meter) connect an slc channel 0 to a panelview RS232 device and would not work on a dh485 panelview

for a dh485 panelview you would need a 1747-C10 C11 or C20 cable to connect to an slc up to 6.1 meters

The Panelview User Manual can be found here and it explains the differences and the cables http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/um/2711-um014_-en-p.pdf

Thats an RS232(DH485) device

See pic

So how far are the slc and panelview apart?

Is there anything else connected or just the slc and PV ?

If its a node problem then check these two pics

One for logix 500 and one for PB32

The nodes should be different and the comm speed should match

Thanks for the info. I will see about getting this working tomorrow. I would also like to connect a barcode scanner to the plc at the same time as the panelview. I have got a feeling that will require some more equipment. Right now I can see the barcode scanner when it is connected to the rs232 port. What do I need to have both working at same time? Thanks for your help.

To connect the barcode reader to the SLC, you will need to use CH. 0 (9-pin serial port), configured for ASCII. when that time comes, use a 1761-CBL-AS03 to connect CH. 1 (RJ-45) of the SLC, to the 6-pin Phoenix port of an AIC+: To use this cable, remove the 6-pin connector from the AIC+ and plug-in the 6-pin connector of the AS03 cable. Then connect the PanelView to the 9-pin serial port of the AIC+ with a 2711-NC13 cable. Now you can set Ch. 0 to "User" mode (ASCII) and connect your barcode reader.
