Hi Phil,
Can we work something out on the max pic size attached to post?
75kb limit is fine, i can trim down colors, save as GIF, JPG or PNG etc.
but max resolution limit of 550 x 750 is rather smallish.
If the resolution has to be limited as well, may I suggest 1280x1024?
This doesn't mean that every attachment has to be this size, it's just the upper limit.
Most of the PCs I deal with (including laptops) are using at least 1600x1200...
I don't know about the rest of the guys (and girls) on this forum
but I don't remember seeing even 1024x768 in a long time.
Maybe Cassey starts another poll... :-D

You must have good eyes...

My laptop and workstation are both at 1024x768.....anything smaller my eyes have a hard time, and I'm young with good eyes! I do CAD, programming, the whole gammet at 1024x768. I tried the 1280x1024 thing for a while, and just found it too small, even with large fonts/text in Windows turned on.....just my preference I guess. I also would be interested in a poll as to what everyone's preference is...Kasey?

Hi Panic mode,

The site is designed for the 'least common denominator'. That's a resolution of 800x600. I agree that standard has changed over time and now 1024x768 has taken over. (The simulator is built around 1024x768 resolution) But the site must still work for the 'vast majority'.

For the simulator, 1024 was required to fit everything on the screen. Going to 800 would have meant less buttons on the menu which would have hurt usability.

For the forum(and remainder of site), everything fits comfortably at 800. If we increase the size of allowable pictures here, it will require many users to scroll right to read the posts where a user has embedded a large picture. I would guess most people would hate that.

I would suggest starting a poll. If the vast majority use a high resolution I will gladly increase the width of allowable images. As a compromise I might also be able to force thumbnails of large images... but that's another topic.

FYI-
The most popular screen resolutions currently used on the web (in the world) are:

1. 1024 x 768 57.38%

2. 800 x 600 18.23%

3. 1280 x 1024 14.18%

4. 1152 x 864 4.95%

5. 1600 x 1200 1.67%

6. 1280 x 800 1.56%

7. 1600 x 1024 0.55%

18.23%(about 1 in 5 people) is a high percentage to inconvenience....

Myself, I use 1280x1024 and 1024x768.

Thanks,

laptop 1920x1200, oldest desktop 1280x1024,
few others are in between...

wireless pc below is not one of them :ROFLMAO:
(it's just a pic i found on web...)

And here I thought that the image size was limited because of the new WYSIWYG editor (which I don't use).

My laptop's 'native' resolution is 1400 x 1050, and it's crystal clear. If I set it any lower, everything is fuzzy. Although, on my 21" desktop monitor, I only run 1280 x 1024. I would need a new set of glasses if I set it any higher... ;)

We all know that Jean Pierre doesn't have these issues with that massive 72" Belgian monitor he has at his desk... :ROFLMAO:
