Regarding allen bradley slc plcs. What is the differance between the keyswitch being in rem. vrs. run??

If it's in RUN, you can't switch it to program mode via RSLogix. In REM, you can change between remote program and run modes through software like RSLogix.

With the key in the run position, you cannot place the processor in program mode via software. With the key in the rem (remote) position you can change the status of the processor to run or program mode via software. Also if the key is in the program position, you cannot place the processor in run mode via software.

The 5/01 and 5/02 do not have a key switch, so are always in remote mode.

plus ... while in the RUN position, you can NOT make edits to the program rungs ... for example: you cannot change the address assigned to an XIC, etc. ... but you can still change the values located in variable locations ... for example: you can change the Preset of a timer ...

while in the REMote RUN position, you CAN make edits to the program rungs - by going through the Edit/Accept/Test/Assemble steps ...

plus you can NOT do a program download while in the RUN position ... the keyswitch must be changed to REM or PROG before you can download ...
