A question on cable connectors:

I need to order some 2, 4, and 12 contact connectors, but need them to be virtually off the shelf. I know the amphenol connectors that would work, but every vendor I've talked to tells me I have lead time of 6-10 weeks because the parts to build the connectors are out of stock.

What I need are 2 and 4 contact in-line receptacles, box mounted receptacles, and plugs, and 12 contact plugs and box mounted receptacles.

At the very least I need the 2 and 4 contact connectors. Does anyone know who I should talk to or where I should start to look to find some that are off the shelf and not custom ordered?

Thanks

I've had good luck with Turck, but there are literally dozens of manufacturers you could choose from. As BobB mentioned, Phoenix Contacts are also very good.

You didn't indicate what size you needed or if your application was special (water exposure, explosive environment, etc.), but for general purpose use, Turck has been reliable and readily available.

The fact that you're looking at Amphenol indicates you may need mil-spec hardware. Have you checked these distributors? They carry a limited range of Amphenol products.

Thanks -

The electricians I work with had suggested the Amphenol ones, and since I really didn't have a clue, I ran with them. Then I found out they do mainly mil-spec stuff, but a lot of custom built stuff as well. It was a 4 day nightmare speaking with vendors, speaking with Amphenol tech support, etc.

Thanks for the link to phoenix. I called the tech support number, told the guy what I had and what I was looking for, and about 35 minutes later, I had all my part numbers, verified they were in stock (and for the 2 parts that were out of stock, found replacements). (Ended up with the pluscon heavycon line. perfect for my app) Totally Impressed.

Sorry my description wasn't a lot of help, grover, but thanks for the help. I try to include as much detail as possible, but I figured a general description might get me more leads.

Glad you had good luck with Phoenix. Also, thanks for coming back and letting us know the results.

We are just to the left of the international date line (the Kiwis are closer by 2 hours). To you guys it is tomorrow here. In fact when I wrote that response it was actually 11.06 AM in Sydney Ozz.

Might I add that quite often I am online at 4.30 - 5 AM in the morning Sydney time and after midnight as well. I like to get to site for commissioning at the latest 7AM and miss all the traffic. If someone wants a meeting at 9AM (office workers - not bashing - I was one once) I tell them to make it 10.30 AM and not waste half my day in traffic.
