Years ago, I worked with two types of B&R controllers. The B&R Mini is somewhat like the AB SLC500. These were good PLC's. We used statement logic, rather than ladder logic to program, but if I remember correctly, Ladder was available. Like I said, that was quite a while back. 1990 if I remember correctly. The first machine I helped build with this controller is still in production, and producing parts at a clip of about 1 per 1.3 seconds. The only trouble we had with these was blowing triacs in output cards. That, was a fault of control system design, not a fault of the PLC.
The other full sized version was similar to the AB PLC2 series. I did not have a lot of experience with these, but they seemed to be an exact copy of the AB system.
I have not worked with newer versions of B&R and the others mentioned.
