PLC install

As a rule of thumb I always spec out cat5. No special reason other than that is all I have used with great success.

CAT5E cable are cheaper and better that CAT3 or CAT5, so use CAT5E.

The only difference between CAT5 and 5E is variable twisted pair pitch with CAT5E.

I always thought I was getting cheap cabling because the twist was not consistant between the pairs. So this is by design, why?

Ok, I had noticed the different pitch but never knew the function of this

Thanks Contr_Conn and Congratulations on hitting 1000 post

I prefer and recomend using fiber. There is no cross talk, never have spikes or drive noise, etc. A huge problem with copper and is hard to detect is when you have a floating ground or going between building that have potential between grounds. If you must use copper, look into Cat6 cable. I have already done a project with a redundant GIGABIT fiber backbone.
