I'm looking into buying RSLogi5000 software so I can work on Control Logix PLCs. The cheapest version is about $3500 and it's version 16. My question is, they seem to be changing the version almost every year. If I get version 16, will I need to purchase again version 17 & spend another $3500? or does Rockwell allow you to upgrade for free? Also, when I buy version 16, am I able to work on processors that have lower version(15, 12, etc) installed in them? or do I need to spend more money and buy those versions also?

TIA

A techconnect contract gets you support for the software, with the downloads of the lower versions as well as the most current version.

Contact your local Rockwell distributor, as he can fill you in on the specifics.

... so I can work on Control Logix PLCs.
and be sure to check whether or not those PLCs are using any of the "add on" packages such as Structured Text, Function Block Diagrams, or Sequential Function Charts ... the last time I checked, those were "extra cost" options ...

Also, a single Tech Connect contract will cover upgrades for not only RSLogix5000, but also for RSLogix500 and RSLogix5 and RSNetworx software as well.

To answer your question about revisions, the CD will have versions 10-16. You can install them all or selectively install just the revisions you want. When you open a RSLogix5000 project the software will automatically switch to the required version.OG

To be aware the mini version only covers Compact and FlexLogix processors I believe. You will need to purchase the Standard edition to get capabilities to program the entire range of Logix5000 processors.
