I want to connect a serial RS485 input into a Micrologix 1200. I need to know can this be done? I think the Micrologix 1200 has a place for RS232 port.

Whats the protocol of this serial input?
Your ML1200 will speak (see pic below)

MicroLogix 1000, 1200, and 1500 have only an RS-232 serial port and require an RS-232 to RS-485 converter like the 1761-NET-AIC isolator.

The MicroLogix 1100 forgoes the standard RS232 handshaking pins and substitutes an RS-485 port, so you need only a breakout board, part number 1763-NC01.

As Mickey mentioned, the protocol is just as important as the signalling method.
