Profibus to RS232

I'm working with Siemens S7.

I have a printer mounted remotely from the PLC but there is a Profibus cable near the printer. The printer can be controlled through its RS232 port so Inned something I can connect to the Profibus and allow commands to be sent/received from the printer.

Hi Alan

Ok siemens themselves do several units that will acheieve what your looking for, depending upon distances etc you could possibly use a profibus repeater station as Profibus is actually siemens speak for RS485. The repeater station has a DB9 female socket on to connect a laptop to, you could use this to give you the physical connection to the profibus then convert it to RS232.

Sounds like a very expensive solution. Could you not use a simple print server and run a bit of cheap cat 5 cable connecting via ethernet
