Importing Unity variable names from Excel

Is it possible to import elementary variable names, created in Excel, to Unity Pro? With some other PLC manufacturers I've exported some dummy variables fist, populated the spreadsheet with the new names and re-imported them. Unity exports variables in the XML format??
