Comms between SLC 5/03 and L5561

I've been thinking about communicating a SLC 5/03 to a Contrologix L61. The L61 has a 1756-DHRIO and 1756-ENBT besides the DF1 port on the Controller. I need to write and read data back and forth on both devices. The L61 is conected to the DCS using a Prosoft Modbus board.

My question is: Is it possible to use the port DF1 on the controllers? Can the port on the L61 be set to talk to the 5/03 using DH485?

Since I've a 1756-ENBT I might use it as programming interface, but if successfull, will it allow me to enter the 5/03 though the L61 port?

The DHRIO module won't help, but a 1756-DH485 module would allow you to connect to the 5/03 DH485 port.

Alternatively, you could use plain old serial DF1 if the devices are within 50ft of each other.

Or, you could use the Logix serial port to a NET-AIC module connected to a DH485 port on the 5/03. Set the serial port for DH485, and give it a node number unique to the DH485 network. Then you can MSG to the 5/03 from the Logix CPU. This might make using the serial port for programming a bit of a PITA.

Another alternative might be to put a 1761-NET-ENI on the 5/03 serial port and connect it to the ethernet network with the ENBT module. Then you should be able to access both PLCs from ethernet and message between them.
