6200 series software for AB

Has anyone out there, that is still using AB 6200 series software version 4.3 ever got this to work on windows xp professional. I
did get loaded on to the computer, but it won't communicate with any of my plc5s using a 1784-pcmk card.

soup, your version 4.3 of 6200-PLC5 will be limited to things it can access with the RS-232 serial port.

6200-PLC5 in it's last versions (6.2x) was updated to run in Windows NT 4.0 (and many users have had success with Win2000 and XP). It uses RSLinx for communications under those operating systems, and RSLinx takes care of the hardware access to the 1784-PCMK.

As Ken says, you need a newer version of s/w. 6200 added the capability to use RSLinx at ver 5.35 or 5.36. However, it is as slow as a wet week. The performance would be not very different from using the serial port.
Get RSLogix5 - it's vastly superior (unless you have to support systems using CAR's).

I aggree with Gerrys statement,
I just want to clarify that a serial connection at 19200 baud is FASTER than 6200 + RSLinx + Ethernet !

Its one of the reasons for us electrical gyus who have a lot of legacy software to have a dual-boot setup. Win 98 + Win 2000 (or Win XP).

Thanks for the correction, Gerry. 6200-PLC5 was last revised at version 5.36, I think, and it was AI-5 that had a version 6.27.

Although I work with A-B controllers every day, I haven't run 6200-PLC-5 in at least four years. Right now I don't have it installed on any PC's in my office.
