Can't establish basic USB comm with Data Station Plus

Problem: Can't download a basic comm configuration to DSP

Error: Target Device is not compatible with this file

Red Lion Data Station Plus (DSP), model DSPSX000 (no CF card)
Software: Crimson 3.0 build 443

goal: Set DSP up as Modbus/TCP master, read from device B, write to device A


1) set up comm between Crimson and DSP:
Link > Options > Comm port = USB. USB cable plugged in on both ends

Communications > Programming Port = no driver selected

2) Configure IP address for DSP
Network > ethernet 1 > port mode = manual config
IP address = 192.168.1.90
mask = 255.255.255.0



3) Define protocol for DSP
Protocol 1 = Modbus TCP/IP master

4) Configure IP address for device A
Network > Protocol > PLC 1 > IP = 192.168.1.85


5) Configure IP address for device B
Network > Protocol > PLC 2 > IP = 192.168.1.62


Attempt to download to DSP:
Link > Update > Target Device not Compatible


Any action from Link fails with the same error.

What am I missing?

Do Link Extract and see if the device will tell you exactly what it is.

I wonder if you may need to download an old rev. to get firmware updated or if it's not compatible with Crimson 3.0

It's new, and the date code is 3311x (33rd week of 2011)

The way I read the compatability table (from the web site above), the DSPSX is C3 (Crimson 3) compatible.

Your screen shot shows that you are trying to download a configuration for a G306. Please go to File > New and choose DSPSX.
