Use of BTR & BTW instructions.

hi guys,
I just wanted to know the use of BTR & BTW instructions used in AB plc programming.
Why do we need them?What it does??? && how to define the control blocks which appears in the instruction set.?

Also the "Instruction Set" manual for your PLC would be a good place to start.

You can also get some good BTR & BTW reading in the manuals for specific I/O modules, for example http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/um/1771-um665_-en-p.pdf. Gives detailed information on the BTR & W for the 1771-IFE analog input module.
