Emerson EN-204 with FM-2 Comms

I can not communicate wtih an Emerson EN-204 with an FM-2. I am using a 3 wire straight through 232 cable as I read in the manual. If anyone has any experience or tips for this it would be greatly apprciated. Thank you.
