Hi all. I have a work request to send data to a printer each time a door is opened. For instance, the print out would read "09/04/2013, 23:00, DOOR A OPEN"
There is a SLC 505 processor running this equipment.
Is it possible to use the rs232 port on the processor to send the data to a printer? If not, what other options do I have to accomplish this?
Thank you for taking the time!

The traditional way to do this is to use a printer with RS232 serial input that supports ASCII codes (check out Epson). Configure the SLC's serial port for ASCII comms, connect with a null modem cable, and you're all set. Of course you have to write the necessary ladder logic; look up the ASCII commands in the RSLogix instruction set help.
