Does anybody know how to connect an Ethernet scanner to a Micrologix 1100? What hardware and software would you need to accomplish this task?

Wow, that's the last thing I would think of when someone say ethernet scanner. Well then, can you tell us which port on the micrologix is already taken up and the specific brand and model of the bar code scanner?

Most bar code scanner send out ASCII. With serial com, it's easy to get ASCII parsed, with ethernet, it all depend on the protocol of the communication. If it's ethernet IP, then it should be easy to do a Message read via ethernet. Again, it depend on the specific model of the scanner. Usually, the manufacture will include the instruction and sample ladder. If you haven't bought the scanner yet, I would read the manual of possible compatible models to make sure it's compatible.

The barcode scanner is Ethernet/Ip capable. Can a Micrologix 1100 communicate to this barcode scanner with an Ethernet switch in between?

Sure, as long as they are on the same subnet. Of course, I'm making a lot of assumptions here about other devices on the network, VLAN, etc.. etcc.

I see you are new to the forum. It's best to post as much detail as possible, even if you think that some details that aren't relevant. Forum environment aren't the same as sitting next to someone who can see your setup and have quick and short Q&A and have knowledge about your background, etc.

The client has multiple lines with existing Micrologix 1100/1400 on each line. They would like to monitor products at different stages. Each line will have multiple barcode readers. How can we monitor multiple barcode readers using existing ML1100's? The scanners are Ethernet/IP and TCP/IP cable?

There are barcode scanners that are EtherNet/IP compatible. As long as it’s one of those you should be able to message to it reading the data. With that said you’d need to make sure it’s EtherNet/IP TCP compatible. EtherNet/IP UDP would mean that it (more than likely) would need a Logix based processor. This is all just an education guess given that I’ve never worked with said devices.
