Good morning all. Need help on communicating between an existing Compactlogix and 20 Powerflex 4 VFDs. There are no special communication cards in the VFDs. The 1769 L33ER is communicating to a 1747-AENTR via Ethernet. Is there a device that will allow creating an RS-485 network for all of the VFDs that will then interface nicely on Ethernet to get into the CompactLogix. Mostly want to control frequency command but would be nice to get some feedback from the drives.

I see several devices (MB-Gateway, Digi One IAP) but not sure if they will do what is needed.

Thanks for any advice.

1769-SM2. It offers 3 channels, 5 drives per channel. So you would need 2 cards.

You will also need some of the following connectors:
AK-UO-RJ45-TB2P (I believe they are a 5 pack)

We use belden 3105A to wire them.

Also, you can use that to communicate to one drive, then set up a daisy chain sub network of up to 32 drives using their inherent RS485 ports. The down side is that if the master drive goes down, you lose the entire sub net, but if they are all on the same machine and must run together anyway, that’s not usually a problem.
