How to set IP address on Momentum?

Hi!

About 4 months ago I was asked to propose PLC's for road tunnel (2.4km) in Southern Russia. Alas, my proposition (Automation Direct DL06) was rejected for unclear (really very clear) reasons. My solution is at least 2 times less expensive than proposition from Schneider Electric, so it is more attractive for those who distribute money.

Now I have to work with Momentums (nice peace of iron btw) and weird Concept (so called "software").

I have on table:
Base - ADM 350 10
Processor - 171 CCC 98030 (with Ethernet and RS485).

First of all (as I did it with other controllers) I tried to establish IP-address and ping it. I believe that ANY controller should have this possibility (and solution should be very simple).

I was surprised that it is not so easy task. I tried Concept and EthernetConfigurator (form Concept package) but without any result. Really I established IP-address but only in memory. After swith-off ping doesn't work. Moreover, I tried to change IP-address in memory but respective field is grey (it's impossible to change).

Who does know simple way to solve this problem?

PS. I thank God for costless hint. I insisted on reliable old good InTouch. I fancy how many "underwater stones" are in Schneider's Monitor-Pro.

Don't you have to do this offline and download the configuration? I do not think you can make a change like that online. Did you check and and make sure the bootstrap option is turned off?

Dear David!

Of course, I tried all. Turned bootstrap on and off, tried all possible sequences (in Concept and in EthernetConfigurator). At last I made a call to Schneider Electric HQ in Moscow. I explained my problem and (it appears) puzzled local specialist. He requested timeout and suggested that "only IP-addres" can't be established. Only full configuration is possible. It requires assigniment of MODBUS addresses, programm (at least minimal) and many other things (including configuration of RS485 port).

Anyway, it's a very strange situation. I expected "some problems" but real life is unpredictable as we know.

The normal method to startup up an ethernet Momentum is to setup up a network of only your PC and the PLC. Then assign a dedicated IP address to the PLC (with some bootstrap program like BOOTP Lite), of course your PC also needs a compatible dedicated address. Now you can use the PLC Configurator in Concept (Project->Configurator->Config Extensions->Ethernet/I/O Scanner)to download your desired IP scheme (dedicated address, or bootp server) to the PLC.

If you use the Ethernet Configurator utility, which came with Concept, it only assigns a temporary IP address to the processor because it can not save it to the flash memory. You should be able to use the tempoary IP address to go on-line with Concept and then download and flash the correct configuration. This utility is intended for use with Ethernet I/O modules not processors.

Dear Jim!

Thank you for hint. At least now I know that Ethernet Configurator is useless program (in my case). Alas, I haven't BOOTP Lite and I find it strange that not 1 simple program but 2 should be run to perform very natural and simple task.

Btw, in one dialog box (in Ethernet Configurator) yesterday I had seen button 'Write to Flash' (alas greyed). And if Ethernet Configurator is intended to use only with I/O modules then why it is not explained?

Another note. First time (to avoid any affects of local network) I connected Momentum and PC using inverted Ethernet cable.

As to 'Project->Configurator->Config Extensions->Ethernet/I/O Scanner' then I tried this sequence many times without any result. Thank you, now I know that I should dig further.

Thank you Jim!

It works. After your hint number of paths in labintith was greatly reduced and final right way looks no so long.

Really name of EthernetConfigurator utily is misleading. I naively hoped that it can solve the problem but it is like a starter (to run engine). Any further manipulations with starter would not help to start 'a car'.

Thank you!

words cannot express my gratitude!!
was dealing with the same problem, driving me nuts!!

worked great! thank you Jim!

Updated link for BootP

I know this is an old thread, but it's one of the first that comes up on Google when looking for BootP Lite and how to set an IP in a Modicon Momentum PLC. After struggling to find the BootP Lite utility anywhere on the internet, I put a request in to Schneider and they sent me the updated link. Here it is.

Hope this helps someone out there.

funny how things happen... I was looking for this software for setting up a momentum remote rack.... thanks again guys

Not sure if that link will be around long...

Just wanted to note that I found out that the Eclipse.modicon site is used for their internal FTP's and sharing files with clients on the public side, but I'm not sure if that link is a permanent one or a temporary one that was setup to send the file to me. Hopefully they leave it around for a while, if the link breaks just call their tech support to get them to set another one up.
