Messaging between a CompactLogix 533ER and a Micrologix 1100

Anybody have some tips on getting a CompactLogix 533ER to allow messaging with a MicroLogix 1100? Set the CompactLogix up with the 2, 192.168.1.229 (MicroLogix IP address) and nothing has seemed to work. Using an integer (N:36) on the MicroLogix end. Seemed to work for a brief moment then sending 16#1000 error. Thanks!!
