Don't suppose this is the answer your looking for, but...

I too used to work in a meat processing plant, with an 8 hour night shift power hosing everthing.

After many painful months of trying to prevent water ingress to connectors, sockets, light switches (they used to turn these on and off with the 110bar pressure washers to save un-gloving their hands!), we found the most effective solution was to re-train the washing operatives and then enforce a strict disciplinary procedure for any damage caused.

Probably not legal but it reduced "drying out times" by 50% each morning!

I put in a control system in a turn-of-the-century caustic soda plant (19th -> 20th!) in the mid 1970s. The atmosphere there was so bad that after about 20 minutes your skin was stinging like mad - I hate to think what it was doing to my lungs!

We had loads of problems with keyboards and switch contacts, but over about 15 years, not once did we have a problem with the plant cable connections which used the Amphenol Mil-Spec connectors mentioned by Ron.

SLaubach,

A company I work for manufactures a re-enterable encapsulate that is used in splice enclosures for the telecommunications industry. It is supposed to be completely water proof but yet crumbles away easily when you need to remove it. Email my at [email protected] and I can get you in touch with some one if you are interested.
