Hello all. I have a 1769-L32E that I am re-purposing. I have unplugged the battery and left it for a while, I have actuated the little pushbutton on the front of the unit however, it doesn't show up on the bootp server so I can set the IP address for it. I read a thread on here that said there isn't a capacitor to short for this processor. Any ideas? Thanks

Brent,

Do you have a 1747-CP3 cable or a null modem cable, if yes you can set the IP address via the DB9 port, also the little button only changes the DB9 not the Ethernet

See if this helps http://youtu.be/FkO2BBuuwJw

When I try to reload the driver it says that I have the most current driver for it so I don't know what the issue is. It might be a windows issue.

Hello Mark. I have the 1747-UIC I purchased from you however, I am having problems with the driver not loading.

Unless the serial port is configured for DH485 (it is not by default), the UIC is the wrong device for the job. The serial port of that L32E is DF1 by default, you need a USB-serial and a null modem cable (CP3).

I don't have a serial port on my laptop.

Got it. The device I have is USB-DH485 and RS232/485. I haven't used it in years though.

Right, and that UIC only communicates DH485, which is not the default protocol for the L32E serial port. The default protocol for the L32E serial port is DF1, which the UIC does not speak.

So if the L32E serial port has a default configuration, you will need a USB-Serial and a Null Modem cable (CP3).

If the serial port configuration of your L32E is configured for DH485, then you will be able to use your UIC to communicate to it. In my microcosm, it is rare that the port is ever configured for DH485 which is why I raised this. I didn't want you to waste a lot of your time trying to connect to it with the wrong device.

Buy this and you should be able to connect it to the DB9 (rs232) port on the PLC https://www.plccable.com/allen-bradley-slc-500-usb-1747-cp3-1756-cp3-aftermarket-9300-usbcbl-cp3/

Then you can configure the Ethernet port with RSLinx, I thought you bought a set a long time ago

I think I have bought every cable you offer, including Omron. Lol The 1747-UIC appears to be working however, I can't auto configure in linx. The DH45 keeps blinking on the coms device, then the green light for USB blinks rapidly once, then it does nothing else. If the DCH0 on the L32E is lit does that mean anything significant?

As dmroeder has posted... you can not use the UIC for that CPU unless its configured for it and yours is not

Look around for the USB 1747-CP3 cable and then try it, the UIC will not work

I would instead recommend this:
https://www.plccable.com/usb-to-rs232-plc-programming-cable-special-plctalk-net/

Because it will work with 99.99% of all serial (RS232) devices.

And stick one of these on the end when you need to connect to A/B PLC RS232 D9M configured for DF1:

I found that cable. Then do I use my keyspan to connect the DB9 to the laptop? Its just been so long since I have done this.

Thanks Paul!, I sell a LOT of these... it has a short PM02 and CP3 with our USB to RS232 https://www.plccable.com/usb-allen-bradley-1747-cp3-1761-cbl-pm02-plc-programming-cable-kit/

Yes if you have a Keyspan and a serial CP3 or null modem it will work just fine, connect to the DB9 port and use the DF1 driver in RSLinx, select the correct COM port and click auto config, it should say Successful! if it does go to RS Who and right click on the compact and there you should be able to configure the Ethernet port

5 years later when you need to do it again just search here :) (if it works)
