i am planning to use this 1791 block i/o but still confused by the program addressing. can i use the same rack/group address in both input and output? i'm using plc-5/40e and would be connecting thru channel 1b configured as rio scanner

Wow, that's a blast from the past. I'm editing my whole post because I was wrong about the density.

The 1791-IOBX is a 64 Input/64 Output module, so you use symmetrical Input and Output addressing.

If, for example, the module was addressed starting at Rack 01, Group 00, your addresses for the block would be:

I:010:0-15
I:011:0-15
I:012:0-15
I:013:0-15

O:010:0-15
O:011:0-15
O:012:0-15
O:013:0-15

i was just thinking of paging Ken Roach...thanks, i was thinking about the symmetrical addressing too..just not too sure about it...anyway, that would be one issue down. THANKS...BTW, A/B have the manual on their site...and the other 128-point compact block is the 1791-i0vx
