AB Compact Logix to Serial

I am looking at a way to communicate with a serial device from my compact logix over ethernet.

I have 4 devices, normally accept a a serial communications, that require a single value to be changed from the HMI, which I want to set through the PLC for a time and then reset.

Has Anyone any experience of writing the messages and reliable hardware for this application.
