Hey all,

I need to know which comm. cable will be needed at run time between PanelView Component C400 (2711C-T4T) to Micrologix 1200 ??

The PV has a 9 pin D shell port and the controller has a 8 pin mini din port.

This PV is replacing an earlier PV 300 Micro. This earlier configuration was using a 2711-CBL-HM05 (not completely sure).

I am confused between 1761-CBL-PM02 as suggested by the manual or 2711-NC21.

Is PM02 not a ML to PC cable ??

Please help !!

See pin-outs...

The 1761-PM02 is a null-modem cable
The 2711-NC21 is a straight thru cable.
The 2711-HM05 is also a null-modem cable ( 8pin to 8pin)

Thanks for the literature,

Please help me in understating the use of null-modem (cross) against straight through cables.

A null-modem cable is used for programming i.e for instance PC to PLC or PC to HMI.

Whereas a straight cable is used for communication i.e for instance PLC to HMI/SCADA.

So in my case I need to use 2711-NC21 for ML 1200 to PV C 400 ??

Please correct me if I am wrong.

See link for info on null-modem cables vs straight thru cables.

See pdf for the cable to connect to your PLC. It shows that you need a null-modem cable.

Unfortunately you cannot make blanket statements like that, it depends on the manufacture.

Thanks for the links Mickey,

OK, I get that. Earlier I had read the same document and it tells to use a null-modem cable like the CBL-PM02.

The confusion was because I had earlier used a NC-13 cable (straight) between a PVP 1000 and SLC 500. So I figured that in my current case I should be using a similar one like NC-21.

So I guess, it all depends on the product and its manufacturer and the safe bet is to follow the product's document.

Thanks for the info on null-modem cables vs straight thru cables.
