I have a CompactLogix L32E controller with associated I/O at work that I use to test various programming applications. It has worked perfectly for a long time. I have not used it for about 6 months and have a project coming up that I wanted to test some things. My issue is that I cannot establish communications with controller. I have tried everything that I can imagine. I am very frustrated.

The Ethernet cord works and makes a sound connection.

I/O light - solid green
OK - solid green
DCH0 - solid green (a colleague of mine reset channel 0)

MS light - solid green
LINK - blinking normally
NS - blinking (the port has an IP address but no CIP connections)

The IP address we believe it had was 169.254.36.250

No path shows up in RSwho.

Can anyone help me with getting connections established? I don't believe I was effected by the Windows update that created havoc on Rockwell users since I am using windows 7.

See photos of screenshots.

I greatly appreciate the help.

Your PC/Laptop's ethernet port is set for 192.168.1.2. You need to set it to the same subnet that you believe the PLC's ethernet port is set to: 169.254.36.x. Set the mask to 255.255.255.0

As jstolaruk pointed out you need to change the PLC or your PC address, see the video below on flashing but it shows your the settings in RSLinx

The serial cable is just a null modem or crossover cable so if you can make or find one you can use the video to help set it up... you can also use Bootp and use the Ethernet cable

Thanks for the reply. How and where do I set my laptop's mask to 255.255.255.0?

Thank you

But your PLC needs to be close to the same.... the subnet is fine but change your IP address

Your PLC is 169.254.36.250
Your PC is 192.168.1.2

Change the PLC to 192.168.1.xx you need to make sure xx is not being used by another device

I totally understand. Can you please tell me how I change the controller's IP?

Never mind. Guys I got it working.

I changed my PCs IP to fit the controllers IP and we are good to go.

Thanks for the replies.
