Hi, we work for the IT department and are new to Modbus/PLC/... so sorry if this is a newbie question. W

e're trying to create a Pick To Light System which is connected to our ERP/SQL Database. We can't figure out though how these modbus devices are usually connected to the databases.

If a new order is processed, data has to be sent from our ERP systems to Modbus to reflect in the pick to light devices.
If the pick to light devices are pressed the Modbus data has to be sent to our ERP systems so the change can be reflected in the database.

Does anybody know how this is typically handled? Usually we work with web services that send between eachother to handle these things. Which hardware and software is used to deal with this usually?

Check out Ignition by Inductive Automation, will do exactly what you need with some config.

Note when you see the price on their website, that's for unlimited clients (for people to view the data). Strictly speaking, from what you've said, you might not need any or worst case 1 to do some config.

You could roll your own interface, you'd need a ModBUS driver and a database connection, in whatever language you're most comfortable in.
