Hello Guys, i'm new here and i have a question i would like to ask.

I have a power supply that has 7 terminals. 2 of the terminals i have to monitor using my plc inputs and outputs.

How do i connect an open collector output of a darlington transistor to a plc input.

Thanks for the help

is PLC input expecting sink or source type of signal?
is the transistor PNP or NPN?
what is the voltage rating of the transistor?
what about PLC input (5, 12, 24 or 48V)?
is it ok of the signal is inverted?
are they isolated and do you want to keep them that way?
if they are not isolated, what is the potential difference between the two?

in most cases:
- open collector outputs are NPN
- PLCs are working with 24V but could be expecting either PNP or NPN signals
- open collector transistor voltage rating is at least 30V and current of at least 50mA (enough to be wired directly to PLC input if isolation is not required)
- not always but often enough PLC input can be configured for either sink or source.

uneekmale,

If you can answer Panic mode's questions I'm sure you will get some answers. By the way. More details = better results.
