Greetings;

I'm trying out a controllogix 5550 controller 1756L1/A, 1756 M2/A (added memory) purchased through ebay. RSLinx establishes a communications path, finds node, rs232 is working....but RSLinx doesn't recognize the controller even though it knows the name (shows it). Has anyone else encountered an issue like this?

What exactly do you mean that RSLinx does not "recognize" the controller ?

My guess is that the controller appears in RSWho as a question mark instead of as a controller icon, which would indicate that the EDS file for the controller is not installed on your PC.

The 1756-L1 has been obsolete for several years, so most modern versions of RSLinx will have the EDS files for all versions (the last one was v13) installed, but since you're an Ebay buyer it's certainly possible your software is 5 or more years out of date.

If you can right-click on the icon and determine the firmware version, you can download the EDS file from the RA EDS server and register it using the RSLinx Hardware Installation Tool (Rockwell Software -> RSLinx -> Tools). If you cannot determine the firmware revision, you will have to download all the available EDS files for the 1756-L1 and register the whole directory.

Tip: don't download the EDS files directly to the RSCommon/EDS directory. Use a temporary directory and then use the Hardware Installation Tool.

Hi Ken and Cal,

Ken I sold that CPU to Cal... before I shipped it I flashed to ver 13, below you will see the log and everything looks OK to me, do you see anything out of the norm?

Thanks
Mark

Sure, I get all snarky about EBay and the seller turns out to be one of the only ones I would trust ! :oops:

Since we know the firmware is version 13.34, he only needs to register one EDS file:

http://www.ab.com/networks/eds/cgi-bin/detail.pl?file=XX/0001000E00030D00.eds

That should do the trick. I expect it to work with any release of RSLinx, but I'd be most comfortable seeing at least 2.42 or 2.43.
