DB concept in Siemens PLC

Dear friends, being new in Siemens Automation system, any one can help me to understand and clear my concept on Data Block in Siemens S7. I don't understand the purpose of DB. My previous experience is in Rockwell. If you will give me any reference from Rockwell to understand DB in S7, I would be thankful to you.

A Siemens DB is similar to a ControlLogix tag made with a UDT.
