"Thick" cable is about as big around as your thumb.
"Thin" cable is about as big around as a pencil.
Unless you have tiny hands and use those big pencils.
Thick cable is usually used for trunk connections because it can carry large amounts of current. Thin cable is usually used for drops because it only needs to carry a little current and usually needs to make tighter turns and bends.
