Difference Between 1734-VTM and 1734-8CFG Point I/O Modules?

I haven't had an opportunity to use the 1734-8CFG, but have seen it in different resources from Rockwell. I have used the 1734-VTM before when wiring sensors with the 1734-IF4U Analog Input Module. I understand that the 1734-8CFG is a 24VDC source out/sink in I/O. I am confused on the difference between the two and when you should use either one. I think most of my confusion is lies because I haven't actually had to use the 1734-8CFG. I am mostly just curious for future reference.

Thanks in advance!

The 1734-VTM is a voltage supply terminal module. It basically provides direct high side connection in to the field power bus of a Point I/O group to make wiring of sensors and other inputs more convenient.

The 1734-8CFG is an 8-point configurable digital input/output module. This module lets you define on a per point basis whether the point is an input or an output.

These two modules perform completely different functions. There is no either/or decision between them.
