Different RSlinx drivers

Arikby, cancel that request. I just realised that the version of linx on ym home pc is not lite but a proper version and yes, like you I cannot stop or start the PIC device. Any Rockwell gurus ( Ken cooeeee ) able to tell me why?

The PIC driver - ughhhh! Here's just a sampling of the issues with the PIC driver with anything later than Windows '95:

Here's a list of alternate hardware to connect instead of the PIC:

My personal recommendation - if funds are available, use option 1 - the 1784-PCMK card with the 1784-PCM4 cable. This is not a cheap solution, but in my experience is MUCH more reliable than the PIC.

By the way - this same card with the 1784-PCM5 cable can talk DH+ as well.

Good luck,

PIC Driver

I think i may be able to help
First what operating system are you using?
If you are using Windows XP then when you instal the PIC Driver in RSLinx the Windows origenal com driver is replaced with the AB PIC driver for that port. You cne check this by going to the windows system and checking the installed driver for the com port you selected. The PIC Driver will only work with RSLinx and any other programs that try to use that port will fail aometimes windows will return a message. Even other drivers in RSLinx DF1 ect will not work. The DF1 driver uses the windows com driver when you uninstall the PIC Driver the origenal windows com driver is reinstalled.
I have had to do this often. Some times the PIC com port driver will not install when i install the RSLinx PIC Driver then i have to go into windows system and update the driver for the comport i want to use select the AB PIC Driver from the list then install the PIC Driver in RSLinx. This will work. The AB PIC Driver will be in the Windows Driver list after you install the PIC Driver in RSLinx the first time.
Also if you are using the AB PIC Box to communicate to a SLC processor the box was never designed to work with Windows XP and can shutdown the driver of you stay connected for a long time.
Rockwell should be releasing a USB version if the PIC Bax that will correct this. Release date is unknown.

I this helped

Thanks for the info guys.

Im using windows 95 running on Panasonic toughbooks. We have to stick with 95 on our laptops because some of some old programs we have.

Marc, as you could tell from the drivers in my first post, I have a PCMK card which I use for DH+ so that cable must be the 1784-PCM5. I think I will get a 1784-PCM4 cable and setup two drivers for the PCMK, that way I can start and stop either as required.

Thanks for all the help, I really like it when I get a solution from this site.

I got the PIC driver working with RSLinx Lite Ver 2.40.01 Build 16.
I had to first shutdown RSLinx and its Server. Then start the program
under the Rockland directory called "RSLinx Launch Control Panel". Uncheck the box "Always Run as Service". This will enable you to add the PIC Driver. After that you can go back and recheck the "Always Run as Service" box if you want.
There was some info in the RSLinx help file but as normal it was not to clear.

Mark, what type of OS are you using? Im using win98 at home (im on r&r) and when I go to start from the RSLinx service control panel, I get a message box stating this can only be done from NT.
