I have posted the installation and source code of a program used to read and write data in a SLC 5/05 using the Ethernet port. This is written in Visual Basic 2008 and is completely stand alone (e.g. no RSLinx needed). The source code can be opened using Visual Basic Express 2008 which can be downloaded for free from Microsoft's web site. The driver can be used to build totally free HMI's written in VB.

I would appreciate any feedback of bugs or suggestions.

The files can be downloaded from here:

Well done Archie!

Last I heard, our test 5/05 wasn't working. Hopefully that's not the case because I look forward to toying around with this tomorrow.

Archie, do you have a version for ControlLogix PLCs?
Thanks.
Not yet, but I do hope to get back to that one soon. I have the hardware, specs, and data captures, but still waiting for a break from a huge in rush of work to sit down and do some software developing. I will post some code as soon as I get it done.

Very cool. I'll be watching for the ControlLogix version.

I was hoping that this version worked with mapped ControlLogix tags to data files, but I guess it doesn't.
